Zambia

June 1, 2009

When we told the kids that we where going to take 2 flights from Cape town to Livingstone in Zambia to see a waterfall they almost had a little fit!

“Oh NO, not a waterfall AGAIN!!” (well I do admit that we have seen a lot of waterfalls...:). This waterfall even made our kids appreciate the force of nature...wow if there is one waterfall to see, it is Victoria falls..

The first day we walked along the falls and it was the most unsafe and thrilling walk (no barrier to talk about, slippery, wet walkways) we ever took. You get totally soaking wet (raincoat is a must!) Estelle and Oskar brought their swimsuit the next day and took a shower from the mist from the falls!

Since just seeing the falls from the ground did not give a us a good picture of the falls, we decided to take a helicopter ride and wow..it is a BIG fall (see pictures).

We also spend some time having fun, horseback riding and driving a motor 2 wheeler, Oskar was an excellent driver and I ..well just let’s say ..the teacher shook his head after I disappeared in the forest for the 5th time...

The Victoria falls is 1 708 meters wide, making it the largest curtain of water in the world. It drops between 90m and 107m into the Zambezi Gorge and an average of 550,000 cubic meters of water plummet over the edge every minute.
